The Blogging World heats up!

Boy lots of things heating up in the blogging world.  Google is going to Googleize blogger and making all kinds of features available. See this post at:

http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2006/08/new-blogger.html

But that isn't the coolest thing I have found in blogging this week. Those of you who use MSN spaces or Blogger or some other service even will appreciate this new beta offering from Microsoft.  It is called Windows LiveWriter. Livewriter is a small app that lets you craft your blog entry into a web page and format it nicely with WYSIWYG authoring for posting.  For more info have a look at:

http://windowslivewriter.spaces.live.com/

And go get it from:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/9/a/f9a19f2d-cec4-4a25-9b0b-eb9655ea7561/Writer.msi

The app takes you through a wizard when you first run it so that you can set it up with your blogging services. Publishing of pictures, maps and content could not be easier, there is even an SDK available for developers to figure out how to get their own content to be used in the app!

Microsoft releases Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta

Hi Folks,

I received the following message. I've tested the service and it is pretty cool.:

We’ve finally done it! Our ‘little’ project to bring you the next generation consumer mail application is going public. As of today, we are instituting a hassle-free sign up for the Mail Desktop beta. No beta invitation emails are necessary. Simply go through the process below and you should be up and running in minutes*.

1.      Go to http://ideas.live.com

2.      Find the tile for “Windows Live Mail Desktop beta”

3.      Click on “sign up” (if you’re NOT signed in with your Passport email address)

4.      Click on “download” (if you ARE signed in with your Passport email address)

5.      Walk through the beta agreement and accept.

6.      Download and you’re done!

7.      Be sure to sign into Mail Desktop with the Passport email address you used in step 3 and 4.

We’re driving hard toward our version 1 release and we need your help to locate those hard to find issues that you care about the most and to tell us what you think. We’re confident that you will find the beta very usable and we promise to send you a refresh very soon (plenty of new goodies on the way!).

In case you’ve forgotten, here’s some of the great things you get with Live Mail Desktop now:

·        Junk and phishing protection

·        Support for RSS feeds

·        Photo email (share & publish your photos as slideshows to the internet!)

·        Blog it!

·        3 pane view of email

·        Integration with Windows Live Messenger

·        Active Search

·        Multiple account aggregation

·        Instant Search

·        Free client access to your hotmail account

·        Lots more and with even more to come!

One more thing: our beta is supported. If you run into any problems, use this link to get support –  http://support.live.com/eform.aspx?productKey=wlmaildesktop. We even have a support blog - here

Download and send us feedback at wlmdb@microsoft.com . For more on sending feedback, see a previous blog post, here.  We can’t wait to hear from you. Spread the word.

*Direct sign up is only available if your Passport is a US Passport. We’re working to make this more broadly available. If you do not have a US Passport, you will be automatically directed to our waiting list. Once you submit your email address, we will send you an invitation as soon as we can

*Windows Live Custom Domains and MSN premium accounts are not supported by the beta program at this time.

Picked this up from Bink.Nu that Windows XP Embedded SP2 went Gold
Microsoft's Mobile and Embedded Devices Group has released the final version of Windows XP Embedded with Service Pack 2. The latest release of the componentized version of Windows XP -- targeting a wide range of embedded systems and devices -- is now available for free download from Microsoft's website. The free 120-day evaluation software kit comprises the entire product including binaries and tools, and can be used to develop, build, deploy, and test a target OS image in a real device, according to Microsoft product manager John Starkweather.
